After receiving 50,000 comments, FDA released the final rule extending the compliance date for the new Nutrition Facts labeling regulations issued in 2016. January 1, 2020, is now the official compliance date for manufacturers with $10 or more in annual food sales, while manufacturers with less than $10 million have an additional year to compaly (January 1, 2021).

Bullseye: Given changes in daily values, serving size, fiber definition and added sugars, food labelers may want to consider a review of formulations to ensure that required values support brand and consumer promises. Q. Is Organic the same as GMO-free? I've heard conflicting info.

A. No, GMO-free is not the same as Organic. However, for a product to be Organic, it must be free of genetic engineering (commonly referred to as Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs).
